Why You're Really Procrastinating (It's Not What You Think)

Let’s talk about procrastination - not the usual advice about time management, but the REAL reasons we avoid our project and creative work.

I know you know the signs:

The heaviness you feel when you think about your project. (ugh!)

Finding yourself doing anything else but starting.

The “right moment” that never seems to come.

This isn’t laziness. When we procrastinate, it's often a signal that something specific is blocking our path.

This is what’s really happening:

  • When you feel frozen: That's your inner critic - and it is too loud. Give yourself permission to be imperfect.
  • When you feel scattered: You’re mentally drained. Take a break to recharge.
  • When you feel resistant: You’re putting too much pressure on yourself. (perfectionist much?)

Here's what to do starting now:

Instead of forcing yourself to push through your procrastination try this:

  1. Notice what’s happening when you avoid your work.
  2. Ask yourself what would make it easier to start.
  3. Take one small step - even if it’s imperfect.

Give yourself permission to create rough drafts. Your worth and talent isn’t tied to your output, you might just need to add a simpler approach to your practice.

So next time you catch yourself procrastinating, just pause (hey, you're probably already paused if you're procrastinating 😂). But seriously, understanding what’s really holding you back often reveals the way forward.
